PT2 sub genre we choose for 'ready or not' film

SUB-GENRE FOR 'READY OR NOT' FILM:

Our film is a psychological thriller.

Here is definition of psychological thriller from google chrome:

Psychological thriller is a genre combining the thriller and psychological fiction genres. It is commonly used to describe movies and books that deal with psychological narratives in a thriller or thrilling setting. In terms of context and convention, it is a subgenre of the broader ranging thriller narrative structure, with similarities to Gothic and detective fiction in the sense of sometimes having a "dissolving sense of reality". It is often told through the viewpoint of psychologically stressed characters, revealing their distorted mental perceptions and focusing on the complex and often tortured relationships between obsessive and pathological characters. Psychological thrillers often incorporate elements of mystery, drama, action, and paranoia. The genre is closely related to and sometimes overlaps with the psychological horror genre, the latter generally involving more horror and terror elements and themes and more disturbing or frightening scenarios.

We have decided to make our sub genre a psychological thriller because not only it gives a sense of tension and suspense but it also

Some examples of psychological thrillers we have gotten inspiration from are:

  1. Shutter Island
  2. Inception
  3. Black Swan
  4. Zodiac
  5. Hush
  6. Us
  7. You should have left

Most of these inspiration movies for our thriller was part of the homework presentations we did for thriller sub-genres. In the homework we saw what is part of psychological thrillers and how they mess with the audiences mind creating a more intense and suspenseful mood and tone.
  • The psychological thrillers focus on the characters which is what we are doing but also focusing on the setting and location as that is a big factor regarding to suspense.
  • Psychological thrillers involve a mystery which we are incorporating by not showing the face of the intruder/night stalker.
  • The intruder plays games with the girl to mess with her mental state.
  • There is a plot twist where the intruder is in the house
  • The end is not clarified and left on cliff hanger almost as audience is left confused on what happens to the girl.Included low level lighting
  • eerie music and sometimes loud to change atmosphere
  • quick cuts and fades to add to the suspense
  • have weapons such as knives in them.

WHY WE CHOOSE TO DO A PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER:
  • It involves a weapon such as a knife
  • It sit the best with all of our original ideas and when we decided we wanted to do a psychological thriller we found it easy to pick out idea of a list i made of potential ideas we could follow through with.
  • Psychological thrillers are interesting and engage the audience as it doesn't just mess with the characters mental state but it also does of the audience. This helps gather and generate more tension and suspense within our film.
