It is proposed that the film will be 1 to 1 ½ Minutes duration, and that it will be filmed at school, we have chosen this location because it is easy access for all of us as a group and because this is our first ever film, so we will need guidance from our teacher. ( Mele )
This film will include the following conventions of thriller films:
Symbolism and Iconography: The hue of Red will symbolise death, the assassin will be wearing red, which links to the fact that red symbolises death, also linking to the fact that she is going to kill someone, assassinate. A gun will be held facing the second guy which will intensify the suspense being built up throughout the film.
Sound: At the very beginning of the film we will have eerie and suspenseful music, to set the mood of the film, it will be very soft in volume. We will then have the diegetic sound of the phone call and the man talking. For the chase scene we will switch it up and have a fast and suspenseful beat to match with the chasing.
Lighting: Most of the lighting will be very dim and dark, and we will have a hue of red shown throughout the whole film.
Narrative: The narrative itself has a climax point and has this sense of suspense right from the beginning of the film as the viewer views things from the assassinators point of view.(MELE)
After watching the following thriller films/thriller openings I have been influenced by:
The opening of Bourne Identity: The dark and low lighting. We have been influenced by using a symbolic colour in which we will use red to represent death and fear.
The short film from Sherlock holmes: Dark lighting, obstruction (shadows), lots of different angles and movements, eerie music. (MELE)
Thriller movies such as killers and Mr and Mrs Smith: The shooting scenes and the music and camera angles that really make the thriller suspenseful. (PORCIA)
Problems Encountered:
We might not get the darker lighting we have pictured/imagined unless we edit in a darker light. There are no black hues to cover the lights with. We will make do with this problem by dimming the lights as much as possible and using back lit lighting to make the lighting darker. In some scenes we will have some light flowing in, for example scene 2 when the boss calls the assassin. (PORCIA)
The film will include the following:
Character names and their motivations/representation in the film:
The Boss, wants to kill the victim but the boss does not wanna do it himself because it will ruin his reputation. The Assassin, got called upon by the boss and was hired to kill someone secretly, and basically do the boss's dirty work for him. The Victim, has done something bad and now has too pay the consequences and she finds out that the boss has hired an Assassin to kill her so she runs away but gets stuck into a closed room and then gets exterminated. (KEVIN)
Ideology:
The Boss is a typical boss who gives out orders but doesn't do any of the dirty work himself, he
- Mood and tone:
The mood and tone in our short thriller film will be dark and create meaning which will lean towards it being more suspenseful. The mod and tone will create an atmosphere of darkness, death, mystery and fear. Conventions leading to this atmosphere are things such as the red hues which represent death and fear and the use of eerie music, camera angles and the lighting. The tone in our film ‘Ashe’ is serious, suspenseful, anticipating, engaging and overall threatening which will be reflective of our mood of the short thriller film. We will have a slightly gloomy mood which gives off tensity and anxiety which engages the audience by keeping them on their toes. The mood and tone will help make the audience feel uncomfortable in a way and be worried. Atmosphere will be created by eerie silent music with sudden changes to louder or faster sounds during the chase scene. (PORCIA)
- Camera shots,movement, lighting etc:
- Themes and motifs: The themes and motifs that we have got an idea of doing are giving a
- Narrative:
- Mise-en-scene/setting:
Our film’s setting will be City Impact Church’s shore location. This location provides the elements of an office space and a long hallway that are required for the film. An office is a very normal, everyday location and therefore having it being used as the bosses office makes him seem high in power and status. Mise-en-scene will be used in our short thriller film to show everything in the shot. This goes from the lighting and costumes to the props. Such props being used are access cards, a phone, blood, a mirror, a spinning chair and a gun as the killing piece of equipment. The lighting will be low lighting and hopefully quite dark which will be paired with red hues for the effect of fear terror and suspense. The costumes worn by the characters will be a suit worn by the boss to make him look crisp and high in power and status. The assassin will wear black and red clothes to connote with death, fear and terror. As for the coder, she will be wearing a normal uniform such as jeans and a tee shirt, they will have a very causal uniform as their uniform which suggests to the audience that they are lower in class and status. (PORCIA)
Symbolism:
Red will be a key symbol in our film, it symbolises the fact that someone is going to die,
